9 Days and Counting

So it's home time and I'm just chillin at home with the fam. Tuesday night I celebrated Britt's 21st with her family at Carlos O'Kelly's. Then some of us went downtown Iowa City for a bit to watch the Iowa Game. Whoot! :-) This was lots of fun...we got to Dc's around 8pm or so and were able to save a few seats so we could sit and enjoy the game. The next day I helped Britt move some stuff around in her new home. The browns didn't match quuuuite right for the curtains in the living room. So those were exchanged for a better, deeper, darker, more espresso looking brown. I've been in contact with Philip Wharton who I will be studying with while I'm out in New York City for the next three months. I'm going to have to start packing and soon! Monday the 10th is already planned out for us once we get there. We're going to the MOMA and I'll hopefully have my first violin lesson in the Big Apple that day. This is something that I have needed for so long. To be surrounded by culture and art. Life and the City. So much energy to feed from. Granted this is from a girl who has spent only 1 week in NYC...and about 5 weeks in Belgrade, Serbia. So check back in around April 9th to see if I've changed my mind. That's all for now...I think my fluffy bed is calling my name! Night Friends!

Home Sweet Home

Hi friends,
So it's been awhile since I've posted. I've decided that it is going to be at least a weekly thing seeing as I'll be flying to the big NYC in exactly 3 weeks from today. I ended my semester on an interesting note. It was a very emotional year. Starting off living on the Delta wing in a triple with two girls who I didn't know very well. They soon became my sudo-sisters. The ones you love and cant stand at exactly the same time. And I know they feel the same about me. The bonds that we share now are ones that will never be broken. From Kayla's ocd about the futon being clean to Chelsea dancing around in the dark in a onesie pj set. There literally was never a dull moment in our room. And even that is an understatement. So that was the first experience. The second was Professor Hoffman committing suicide. This was so difficult to understand. You know when someone is so happy and so outgoing and there seems to be nothing wrong with that person, then the next morning you wake up and they're gone. It's tragic and sad. Our music department was already fragile from loosing Professor Elliot this summer from the evil of cancer. It was rough. This meant that everyone was behind. I got behind on my conducting evaluations for conducting class as well as getting behind on the research for my music history III class. On top of that rumors were spread about me and a guy who were simply hanging out and talking. This is one thing that I've learned...girls gossip, but so do boys!! This was a new thing for me to witness! I've learned to keep my head down and not talk to people about anything. This was difficult for me because I'm used to trusting everyone and their mother. During this time I had to prepare for my junior recital which was on November 20th. Everything went fairly well. I had to do a lot of last minute preparation. This was also the last day they boys played football at Coe. Such a strange thing...each year I have changed friend groups at school. This is not a bad thing, just different. I joined Delta Delta Delta this past semester and it has been lots of fun. I've met some girls that I would've never met had I not joined. But now I'm home...and sitting on my couch reading Vogue and some interesting things were written that I thought I'd share...

"There's a difference between being in a bra and underpants a an object on men's magazine cover and playing yourself-a woman with desires and needs who loves and laughs with her friends-in a bra and underpants"

and

"There is something to be said for the pure joy of dressing up and going out, of being young and alive in the city"

comical
yes
confusing
yes
exciting
yes
emotional
duh.

So I made lots of new friends...
Broke a couple hearts...kidding I didn't actually do that...
So yeah...
more to come in a week-ish.
